Move Norwood Forward aims to shed light on the people, businesses and happenings of Norwood, Ohio that are bettering the city. If you know of a person who should be featured on an episode, nominate them here.
Thabks for your podcast, of course, great points made. The low turn out was a surprise and a disappointment to me as well. The lack of diversity is a problem. Very striking! Thanks again.
I think you’re missing another important part of this story. The fire union ran a hand picked candidate, back up by 20K worth of donations, and lost. 20K is probably a record for the city of Norwood, and is an amazing amount for a position that usually sees 2-3K raised. A majority of that money came from state level fire union PACs, including on PAC which gave twice, under slightly different names, to get around campaign finance restrictions.
They pulled out all stops, and lost to a candidate who has criticized them directly for the problems created by the current state of our fire union contracts.
Until this time, criticizing the fire union has been seen as a “third rail” in Norwood politics. Now we have a candidate who has not only had the courage to touch that third rail, but to win, and win big against the union’s candidate with the backing of state level unions.
